I purchased a new lens and naturally had to get out for a photo walk. I am one of those weirdos that loves the rain. So I donned my rain gear, umbrella and grabbed my camera with my new Sigma 24-70mm lens and headed out for another aimless afternoon drive.

Rainy days are the best for shooting in black and white. The darker skies, the reflections and rain drops in puddles always make the best moody pics.

I quickly decided to check out downtown Nanaimo and the Nanaimo marina is about two blocks from were I ended up parking.

The marina did not disappoint and made an excellent choice for a rainy day photo walk.

I was able to test put my new lens under gloomy skies and explore its low light capabilities.

This lens performed so well, given its f2.8 aperture I expected light availability wouldn't be an issue. It was quick to focus and felt good in my hand.

This was a relaxing, chill photo walk and I'd love to go back and photograph this area during a winter sunrise which is when you get the most lovely light.

This Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 lens did not disappoint. It's one that will stay on my camera as my daily shooter. The focal lengths provide great flexibility without sacrificing image quality. It is a bigger lens, but it's not to heavy or bulky and does feel good in the hand. If you're used to working with the smaller kit lens this will take some getting used too.

I especially like that its weather sealed which gives me added confidence shooting in our inclement rain forest climate.

My next formal "test" of this lens will be a portrait session.

Until next time, happy creating!

Christie
